Two Ghosts, Song Meaning and Lyrical Interpretation

And now we finally get to what I believed was my favorite song off of Harry Styles' album. As I said in my Track-By-Track Review of the Album, this song really made me feel emotions and that's why I find it to be one of the best.

Same lips red, same eyes blue
Same white shirt, couple more tattoos
But it's not you and it's not me
Tastes so sweet, looks so real
Sounds like something that I used to feel
But I can't touch what I see

The first two lines make it a little too obvious that he's talking about Taylor Swift. Red Lips, Blue Eyes, White Shirt - these are all things that Taylor mentions in her song Style. Harry and his management may have made those lines apparent just for the publicity - just a thought! 

Here, Harry remembers his past relationship fondly. It's almost like nostalgia. But he can't touch or go back to his past love, because it is just a memory.

A lot of time has passed since the relationship ended and now these two people are completely different - so different that they might has well be dead. Dead, as in, those two people do not exist anymore. It's possible that these two people have changed for the worse. They are sad and empty inside because their relationship is over. They might both miss each other but there is nothing either one can do about it.

The fridge light washes this room white

Telling those stories we already told
'Cause we don't say what we really mean

The fridge lighting has been described before - by Taylor Swift in All Too Well. "Cause there we are again in the middle of the night. We're dancing round the kitchen in the refrigerator light." However, I do not believe All Too Well is about Harry; it is supposed to be about Jake Gyllenhaal. Is dancing in the fridge light just one of Taylor Swift's moves? (LOL).

The Moon is also significant!!  It's also what inspired the name of this website. In One Direction's song End of the Day, they describe a very Harry/Taylor relationship (one with getting hurt/going to the hospital i.e the Haylor snowmobile accident), and mention the moon in reference to the person's love. "Party dying downstairs, had nothing left to do Just me, her and the moon." Who knew after a year of this website, THE NAME WOULD STILL BE SIGNIFICANT AHHH IM SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS LINE.

"'Cause we don't say what we really mean" - this line reminds us that Harry and his lover still have comunication problems just like in Meet Me In The Hallway

Harry repeats "We're not who we used to be" many times because that's what hurts him the most. Harry and his lover are both so different...maybe they aren't the once carefree and happy people they used to be. The hurt and sadness of life has changed that. The glass half empty is supposed to add onto the sadness. "A glass half empty" is what people say when they want to say someone is being pessimistic.

Harry is so hurt he feels like his heart has stopped working. He wants to go back to those days where he was brimming with happiness and joy. He is reminiscing on the relationship just so he can get some ounce of that happiness back.

I LOVE love LOVE when he pauses between Heart and Beat. It's so extra and I AM HERE FOR IT. I love how dramatic he is in this song. It makes me want to join him and channel my own emotions while listening to this song.
